Signs That It May Be Time to Have Your Wisdom Teeth Extracted

Last updated 2 days 10 hours ago

The wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the last teeth to erupt and therefore often have limited space to emerge fully and in the proper position. Even if the gum tissue is healthy, the teeth align properly, and no pain occurs, the wisdom teeth may still be prone to disease; for this reason, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) strongly recommends that all young adults visit a dentist for evaluation of their third molars. If you are over the age of 18 or experience any of the following symptoms, schedule an appointment with VCOMS right away.

    • Wisdom Teeth Become Impacted- When there is not enough room for a tooth to fully emerge from the gum line, it is considered impacted. The AAOMS estimates that almost nine out of every ten people have impacted wisdom teeth. When a tooth is impacted, it may grow in at an odd angle, remain stuck between the gum line and the jaw bone, or push other teeth out of position. These effects may escalate into progressively worse problems.
    • Overcrowding Occurs- The average adult mouth has only enough room for 28 mature teeth, so overcrowding is common when wisdom teeth begin to emerge. These third molars can affect the alignment and integrity of surrounding teeth, possibly even damaging them by exerting constant pressure. In order to avoid the need for orthodontic correction and oral cosmetic surgery, wisdom tooth extraction may be recommended.
    • Possible Wisdom Teeth Infections- Impacted teeth are very susceptible to decay and infection. These teeth often push against their neighbors and only emerge partially; they are very difficult to clean, and are prone to bacteria buildup and gum disease. It’s important to note that abscesses, cysts, or tumors may form around untreated wisdom teeth. It’s important to note that teeth infections may ultimately damage the gums, surrounding tissues, bone structure, and of course surrounding teeth. Teeth infections can even spread to the cardiovascular system, and increase the risk of other general health problems.

What to Expect From a Facelift Procedure

    Last updated 9 days ago

Facelifts are the gold standard for lower face and neck rejuvenation. Facelifts are by far the most effective medical procedure if you are searching to regain part of your youth. Medical advances over the last few decades have made facelifts and mini facelifts more effective, and affordable than ever before. With this in mind, it's not surprising why facelift surgery procedures have been widely used for many years.

If you are considering a facelift, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your local San Diego facelift surgeon. The following is a short description on what the process entails:

    • To help decide whether you are a good candidate for a facelift procedure, usually a medical history review is in order. Your surgeon will discuss what you hope to achieve with you.
    • You will be given special instructions prior to the facelift surgery procedure. You may be asked to eschew use of aspirin, nicotine, and other substances that could lead to complications during surgery. Pay close attention to the special instructions you are given. You may also be asked to wash and shampoo your hair the day before the facelift procedure.
    • The plastic surgery procedure itself usually takes about five hours. During surgery, incisions will be made in the skin of your face, encompassing the temple, the front of the ears, and the back of the scalp. The surgeon will tighten loose skin, muscles, and connective tissues, as well as remove excess skin or fat. Finally, all of the incisions will be closed using sutures. Post-operative pain is rare in facelift patients; many patients will experience some swelling, which can be relieved with cold compresses.
    • Recovery time for a facelift varies. It’s common for a person to be able to return to work after about 14 days. All dressings will be removed within 24 to 48 hours of surgery, and the sutures will be taken out after about a week to 10 days. Your tissues will gradually relax in the weeks following the procedure, so it will take some time before the full results of your facelift become clear.

Can Facelift Surgery be Combined With Other Face Related Plastic Surgery Procedures?

    Last updated 15 days ago

In short, there are three main things that determine if multiple procedures are possible. These three things also determine the type of facelift surgery to be performed.

    Three things to consider:

    • The general health of the patient.
    • The ability to take time off of work or play.
    • The budget of the patient.

For the most part if a patient is healthy, then multiple procedures are typically not a problem. Healthy patients are excellent candidates for routine facelift surgery. We are a fully accredited surgery center. Like many San Diego Hospitals, we follow the same requirements they follow. Before submitting to facelift surgery, all of our patients must see their physician. Patient safety is our prime concern so a thorough medical history check, physical and appropriate lab exams are mandatory.

Is your wedding or family, college reunion in the horizon? Do not hesitate to give us a call. Schedule your facelift surgery procedure in San Diego, 4-6 weeks before your big events. Call us at (888) 844-9315 today.

What is the recovery period for a facelift procedure? Every patient is different, always consult with your surgeon, for the best possible answer. Meanwhile enjoy the following educational video:
